ImageShrink

Compress images online without uploading

ImageShrink reduces image file size by re-encoding images on your own device. It helps when emailing photos, speeding up a website or meeting a form’s upload limit.

Images are decoded and compressed on your device. They are not uploaded or stored, and they are released from memory when removed.

Loading the tool…

You will see the original size, the final size and the real savings for each file. If an image was already well optimized and the result is larger, the tool tells you and offers to keep the original instead of showing a fake improvement.

What it is for

Faster websites

Images are usually the heaviest part of a page. Resizing them to their displayed width and converting them to WebP improves load speed and search rankings.

Sending photos by email or chat

Shrink a batch of phone photos so they fit in an email or send faster, without visible quality loss.

Forms with size limits

Government portals, job sites and enrolment forms often require files under 1 or 2 MB. Adjust the quality until you meet the limit.

Heavy screenshots

PNG screenshots take up a lot of space. Converting them to WebP keeps text sharp and makes them several times smaller.

How to use it

  1. Drag your images in or select them from your files (up to 30 per batch).
  2. Choose the output format and quality. 75–85% is usually a good balance for photos.
  3. Optionally set a maximum width or height to resize large images.
  4. Press “Compress”, compare before and after and download the results.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a PNG barely shrink?
PNG is lossless: browsers do not let you adjust its quality. To shrink a PNG screenshot or photo substantially, convert it to WebP or JPEG; if you need transparency, choose WebP.
Is metadata preserved?
No. Re-encoding in the browser drops EXIF metadata, including GPS location. If you only want to remove metadata without recompressing, use CleanExif.
Can I convert to WebP in Safari?
It depends on the version. If your browser cannot encode a format, the tool detects it and tells you instead of handing you a different file type.

Limitations

  • Compression depends on your browser’s encoder; results can differ between Chrome, Firefox and Safari.
  • Animated GIF, HEIC and RAW files are not supported.
  • Images up to 40 MB and 100 megapixels are processed, to protect device memory.
