DevPocket
Base64 encoder and decoder
Base64 represents binary data with 64 text-safe characters. It is used in email, in images embedded in CSS (data URLs), in HTTP authentication headers and in tokens such as JWTs.
Whatever you paste into DevPocket is processed in your browser and is neither stored nor sent.
Loading the tool…
This tool encodes and decodes text with full UTF-8 support, so accents and emojis do not get mangled. It supports the Base64URL variant used by JWTs, tolerates whitespace and missing padding, and can convert a file of up to 10 MB.
How to use it
- Choose encode or decode.
- Paste the text or, to encode, select a file.
- Copy the result or, if it is binary, download it as a file.
Frequently asked questions
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is a reversible encoding that anyone can undo. It does not protect information; it only turns it into text.
What is the difference between Base64 and Base64URL?
Base64URL replaces “+” with “-” and “/” with “_” and usually omits the “=” padding, so it can be used in URLs and file names. It is the variant used by JWT tokens.
Limitations
- Regular expressions use the JavaScript engine; syntax may differ from PCRE, Python or Java.
- The text diff is designed for documents up to about 2 MB.
