DevPocket

URL encoder and decoder

URLs only accept certain characters. Spaces, accents, “&” or “?” inside a value must be encoded as sequences like %20 or %C3%B1 for the link to work. This tool converts in both directions.

Whatever you paste into DevPocket is processed in your browser and is neither stored nor sent.

You can encode a component (a parameter value, which also encodes “/”, “?” and “&”) or a full URL (which keeps its structure). When you decode an address you also see its parts and a table with all its parameters.

How to use it

  1. Choose encode or decode.
  2. When encoding, choose component or full URL.
  3. Copy the result and review the parameter breakdown.

Frequently asked questions

When do I use “component” versus “full URL”?
Use “component” for values you will put inside a URL, such as a search term. Use “full URL” when you have a whole address with spaces or accents and want it to keep working as a link.
Why is “+” sometimes a space?
In HTML forms (application/x-www-form-urlencoded) spaces are encoded as “+”. Turn on the matching option when decoding that kind of data.

Limitations

  • Regular expressions use the JavaScript engine; syntax may differ from PCRE, Python or Java.
  • The text diff is designed for documents up to about 2 MB.
